Moving On

Packers came. They packed.

Good-bye stuff.

We sold or gave away the rest.

Good-bye really old grill that still works but is rusty.

Good-bye Oldsmobile that's barely working but still looks good (if you're into that sort of thing). I hope you treat your new owners nicely.

Good-bye Yoders. We did not sell or give them away. We just borrowed their van for 3 weeks while Joel was too busy to fix our car so we could sell it and we were waiting on getting a new van from my cousin Minon. I digress, that's a story for another day that will probably never make it to the blog.

And now for the worst part of the move. What to take with us for only 4 months!? It's a much tougher decision than it seems. And as my mom used to say, "your eyes are bigger than your tummy". But in this case my eyes were bigger than my van.

What's that? You see two vans. Oh yes, we were still borrowing my brother-in-law's van because we needed it to take the leftovers to the dump and goodwill.

If you look closely in the background you can see the items we thought were important enough to take with us on our short 4 month stay in Texas being left on the curb because there wasn't room for them. Sad day.

Can you see Joel in the rear view mirror? A better question is can Joel see you? The saddest part about this picture is that this is when we thought we were done. Everything was in the van that could fit in the van. We just needed to close the door. Easy, right? No. I tried to close the door but it wouldn't shut. Joel tried it. One of our friends stopped by to pick up the spices and olive oil I had wanted to take with us (I know, ridiculous that I wanted to take those things but I am very attached to my spices and olive oil!) and he helped Joel unload everything out of the back and re-pack it all. Then he left. We thought we were done again. Not so. We still couldn't fit everything in. That's when I said enough is enough we're getting a hotel! It was 6:30pm by then and Griff's bedtime was only an hour away. We had been out there since 11:30am. So we threw the extras into Jared's van and got a room for the night.

And what was little Griff doing this whole time? Being the best little baby in the whole world and playing contentedly in his stroller or car seat or taking any number of naps outside in his pack n play.
The above pictures were taken after spending hours and hours with our stuff scattered on the lawn scratching our heads and wondering how this happened to us. I was feeling very dumb because I'm usually pretty organized. Not anymore apparently. So, in the end we got as much as we possibly could into our van, gave some things away, and were rescued by our friends the Spradlins who not only helped me clean out our apartment that morning, but when they saw my S.O.S. on facebook sent a text saying they could bring the things we really wanted to Texas in a trailer when they come in a month. They are lifesavers! That's about it. I do have to mention that the weather was perfect for spending the whole day outside with a baby.

The next day we ran a few errands, weighed our van (which came in just under the it's limit for cargo), dropped off Jared and Tera's van and were off to Texas. And that's a story for next time.
